Transmission Repair & Driveline Service

Today’s modern cars and trucks come with a wide variety of transmissions and suspensions. They may have a simplistic three speed to a computer controlled seven speed automatic transmission, or a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) transmission installed. The driveline system can be just as varied, from a rear or front wheel drive system, to an all-wheel drive set up. There are transfer cases, front and or rear differentials, CV (Constant Velocity) axles, and U joints, front and rear drive shafts. We have the training and the experience to diagnose and repair all types of transmission and driveline issues. We’ve been servicing transmissions in Edmonton for over 16 years… when it comes to transmission maintence, you can be assured your vehicle is in good hands at Best Choice Automotive.

They are engineered to take all the power and torque your engine produces and convert it into motion to either move your vehicle forwards or backwards effortlessly and seamlessly. They must be able to tow trailers, travel over slippery, wet, rough road conditions in such a manner as to not be noticed by a driver. These systems may have computer controls to make shifts to maximize fuel economy or engage the four wheel drive systems if slipping and wheel spin is detected. They can route power to the wheels with the most traction to keep you moving safely. With the complexity of these computerized systems, maintenance is highly recommended to keep your vehicle operating safe, efficiently, and to prevent possible costly repairs. Heat is the biggest contributor to these systems failing.

On newer model manually equipped vehicles, the transmissions clutch system is engaged and controlled by a hydraulic system. This system makes the clutch softer and easier to apply requiring less effort. To ensure longevity and many kilometers of trouble free driving with so many moving parts, solenoids, modules, switches and controls, filter and fluid replacements are a cost effective preventative maintenance measure.

To ensure the continuous safe operation of this system Best Choice Automotive will road test your vehicle to check for the proper operation and shift points of the automatic. On manually equipped cars we will check for clutch feel, test for clutch slippage, and release point height on the pedal; also the smoothness of gear engagement when shifting. We will then bring your vehicle in and inspect the fluid levels in your transmission, differentials and transfer cases, clutch hydraulic system, and then advise you as to the condition of these oils and any maintenance procedure that may be required. We will also visually inspect all seals, gaskets, CV (Constant Velocity) axles and boots, drive shafts and U joints, transmission cooler lines and coolers, as well as ensuring all mounts are in good shape, not torn or soft. When it’s necessary to properly diagnose a transmission condition, it may require installing our scanning equipment to ascertain the state of your transmission.
