These are a few of the different type of configurations: Macpherson strut suspensions, leaf spring suspensions, air ride suspensions, coil spring suspensions, transverse leaf suspensions, torsion bar suspensions, electronic shocks, or a combination of one or more of these combined, depending on the manufactures preference.

An inspection of these systems involves looking for broken or cracked coil or leaf springs, leaking or rusted shocks and struts, noisy or sticky upper strut mount plates and bearing plates, compressor operation in auto-leveling air ride springs, leaks in air lines, as well as play or wear in the strut control arms.
